A week or so ago I had the pleasure of working with my friend Ian Campbell... again. I must say there is some ridiculous goodness about doing makeup on the tailgate of a Jeep in the raw sunlight. Bianca's lovely caramel skin and perfect jerry curl set for an epic vision. We shot on some sunny California hillsides. Filmy gutter water, seas of dried grass and shadowy secret spots filled our day as we built what our imaginations had planned out. God damn I love my job.

Rebecca Caldwell.
A lovely Scottish woman by the aforementioned name contacted me to help her "revamp" her look. Since I was working with a beautiful canvas to begin with, this wasn't such a hard task. With a few outfits in mind and makeup looks pinned we nailed each look with utter success! Thank you to Neil for producing such wonderful photos. GO REBECCA!

Chloe by Ian Campbell.
I recently worked with a friend of mine who goes by the name of Ian Campbell. His lovely girlfriend, Kristin, is a dear friend of mine and styled the subject on this day. It's always good to work with familiar faces... not to mention beautiful ones like Chloe's.

Futuristic hippies?
I really wish the two could hold hands amicably. This, however, is asking too much. Life's trials and errors have proved this true to me. The scenery in this editorial reminds me of living on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Vacation.
va·ca·tion (v-kshn, v-) n.
1. A period of time devoted to pleasure, rest, or relaxation, especially one with pay granted to an employee.
I really need one of those... especially the paid type. When I gazed upon these images I could only picture myself lounging around a breezy mid century home, all swanky in svelte clothing - doing nothing but enjoying life. I think a trip to Joshua Tree or perhaps good ol' Brooklyn is in the works, plans TBA. In the meantime I'll leave you with the above referred photos:

Step Into the Future.
I couldn't chose a more redeeming title for this blog. Knowing that the accompanying photos had been compiled into an editorial titled just that, I had to snag them. Life is rough and when it gets to be unbearable you have to realize that focusing on your future may be the only outlet that enhances the positives. I know I'm steppin'... are you?

Speechless...
I am awestruck by this editorial Nick Knight did for the February UK Vogue. When I glanced at these photos I had to rub my eyes to make sure what I was gazing at was actually real. These photos bring the following words to mind: unearthly, extraterrestrial, native unamerican, neosurrealism, atmospheric electrical phenomenon ... etc.
God bless life, serious.

Pastel hair is the new BLACK...
...okay maybe not the new black but this fad is surely pulling it's weight in the popularity department. I remember pulling these scans quite some time ago and really wanting to dye my hair. One of my hair dresser friends said, "Kali, honey. Those are wigs. You're not going to dye your hair light purple." WELL DUH THEY'RE WIGS, but what fun is that?

Dr. Nicholas Edward Cave to you.
Nick Cave is one of those musicians who's music brings so many fond memories to my mind. I've had several instances where I'm telling a story to a perfect stranger (somehow relating to Nick Cave) and somehow everything ties together wherein I instantly have a new friend. One instance: I met a man named Mykil in Arizona and I was telling him how "babe-like" Jethro Cave is and he mentioned that he actually was a mega Cave fan having publicly loved on Dr Cave front row at the Hollywood Bowl show (that I just so happened to be at!) and he named his son Magnus Cave... so cute.
Well incase nobody knew, back in 2008 the native Australian accepted an honorary doctorate of laws from Australian based Manosh University. While the nearly 1600 seat hall [the ceremony took place inside of] sat empty, Dr Cave still donned his honorary bonnet and gown. You're always stylin' Nick and this one goes out to you...

His offspring - Jethro Cave...

And the type of women I would picture these fine men associating with (in my dream world, of course).

R.I.P. Jay Reatard.
I was listening to KXLU a few days ago and I heard the terrible news that Jay Reatard (a.k.a. Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.) had passed away in his sleep. At 29 years old this beautiful man hadn't conquered all of what life had in store for him... and that's when the news is the most sad of all. His incredible music haunts on - but god damn I'm sad I wont hear anything new from this man in the future.

Metamorphosis:
|ˌmetəˈmôrfəsəs| noun ( pl. -phoses |-fəˌsēz|) : • a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one, by natural or supernatural means.
I need one of those. I haven't exactly been feeling like 'myself' lately (whatever they decided that means). I really need to get back into the swing of things and persevere through these hard times. With that being said - I pulled some images and recalled one of the most inspirational actors ever to help me stir those creative juices.
John Barrymore (yes, Drew's Granddad) was so ridiculously metamorphic. From the most wart ridden, scarred villain he would rise from the grave into a hero with the face of a saint. John Barrymore - today you are my inspiration.

Inspo/Korean Numero.
Korean Numero - THANK YOU. I seriously need to stop looking at over-contoured eye makeup and move along in life. This shoot nailed so many looks it could've built a damn house. So terrible... terribly good. I shall attempt something similar in the near future.
